The Turks and Caicos Islands geographically belong to Baha-
mas and are still a secret vacation destination. You will find
marvellous sand beaches and turquoise water which is ideal
for swimming. The underwater world is perfectly filled with
multi-color fish and corals. The islands are a real dream!
The TCI, the way they are known, are 8 bigger islands and a
few small islands. The main island Providenciales has lovely
beaches and the best beach of all, the Grace Bay. The beach
is 15km long and you will find most hotels in this area. The
capital Cockburn Town on Grand Turk has a population of
only 4,000 and is relatively small and quiet. All houses are
built in the typical Caribbean style. The Turks and Caicos Na-
tional Museum, which is placed in Cockburn Town, gives a
good view in the island past. On the neighboring island Salt
Cay you will see the former equipment used to extract salt.
The biggest of the islands are North and Middle Caicos
which have together only a population of 2,.000. Some rain
showers on North Caicos enables to grow fruits. Bananas and
other fruits are of good quality and taste like anything.
The islands have hotels of all categories and resorts, but tou-
rism just started. The major tourist area lies on Providenciales
and smaller islands have only a few hotels.
