St. Lucia
St. Lucia lies between Martinique and St. Vincent and is one
of the most well-known destinations in the Caribbean! The
symbol of the island are the two steep Pitons (Mountains) in the
south-west. The capital city is Castries and with only 50,000
a rather sleepy city. Many cruise ships stop there to let their
passengers visit the city and to discover the beauty of the is-
land. The center of Castries is the Derek Walcott Square,
which is named after the famous Nobel prize winner. Worth vi-
siting is also the Roman Catholic Cathedral which is construc-
ted of wood and iron.

St. Lucia has many marvellous golden beaches and the best

are situated on the northern coast line from Castries to Cap
Estate. Most hotels are built there and you will find also plenty
restaurants and bars. Reduit Beach, where you can rent all
kind of sport equipment, is the most popular beach. St. Lucia
is also very well-known for its lovely Marigot Bay. A small
bay and beach surrounded by steep hills. On the northern tip
of the island you find Cap Estate, which is a tourist area with
many villas and a golf course. The Pigeon Island National
Park is also located here.

The south of the island has many dark beaches and is moun-

tainious. Soufrière is a charming village on the west coast with
some colored wooden houses. Nearby you find the impres-
sive Sulphir Springs. The east coast of St. Lucia is more wild
and bathing is not always possible because of the high tides
of the Atlantik Ocean.
