On both islands Saba and St. Eustatius, which is called Sta-
tia, it seems like the time has stopped itself. You will find a
very natural and untouched surroundings, rather sleepy and
relaxing. If you are looking for a very active beach vacation or
big entertaining possibility than you are definitely wrong. The
whole island population adds up to only 3,000 people.

Saba is a small and
mountainous island without a single
beach on it but it gained a good name as scuba diving island.
The Saba Marine Park was already established in 1987 to
protect the perfect underwater world. The main village is The
Bottom with a population of a few hundreds and not really a
big place. All the houses are built in the typical Dutch style
with white walls, red roofs and fenced gardens. The only mu-
seum on the island is located in Windwardside, the second
village of Saba, and worth visiting

The island St. Eustatius is as quiet and sleepy as Saba. You
will find a few beaches but the main attraction is rather hiking
than sunbathing. Statia has a wonderful underwater world too
and there are some good dive center on the island where you
can book dive tours or PADI courses.

The main village is Oranjestad which has some nice places
that are worth visiting. The Fort Oranje is the highlight of the
island. It was built 1636 by the Dutch on the walls of a French
Fort. There is also a small museum located in a colonial buil-
ding, where Admiral Rodney has once lived. Another attraction
is climbing the former active volcano The Quill, whose crater
is thickly wooded.
