Grenada is worldwide known as "Spice Island" and even at your arrival you will smell spices! The island is not as touristic as Barbados or Jamaica, although it offers everything for a per- fect vacation. A splendid landscape with mountains covered with rainforest and tropical plants and sand beaches are avai- lable. The southern Grenadines also belong to Grenada. Grenadas capital St. George´s was founded in 1705 and is lo- cated on an attractive port. Worth visiting is the harbor, where all the houses are built around and you have breathtaking views of the surrounding areas. You should not miss to visit the old Fort George, which was built by French in the 18th centu- ry and the well preserved Goverment House from 1802. If you drive further in the south you will reach the beautiful and long Grand Anse Bay which is the best beach on Grenada. At the Grand Anse lies the tourist area of the island with some hotels and restaurants, but it gets crowded only on week-ends. The Morne Rouge Bay is also a very popular beach. If you con- tinue your trip to the north, you will pass the Annandale Wa- terfalls. After strong rain it is possible for you to bath in the ri- ver. You should visit the Grand Etang Forest Reserve and Mu- seum, which is a protected reservation of wildlife. At the north- ern part of Grenada lies Sauteurs where the last Cariben died. |
