Dominica is the wildest and a almost untouched Caribbean
island! You will find dense and beautiful ranforest which
hasn´t changed over the past years. Dominica is the # 1 desti-
nation for those who adore pure nature. It´s still accommo-
dates the original inhabitants, the Caribs. Dominica is not a
typical beach destination but it is great for individual tourists
who like to discover the original Caribbean and who are inte-
rest in active vacations like walking or bird watching.

The island calls itself the "Nature island of the Caribbean"
which fits itself perfectly. In the center you will find mountains
like the Morne Trois Pitons with a height of 1,342m. The Pi-
tons National Park which spread over an area of 64qkm offers
endless plants and animals. The small and sleepy capital city
is Roseau which has a population of 19,000 inhabitants. After
beeing caught in fire in 1805 the city was rebuilt and therefore
has some beautiful buildings. Worth seeing places include
Fort Young (today a hotel) which dates back to 18th century
and several Georgian style buildings like the nice Goverment
House and the Saint George Church. Do not miss to visit the
Botanical Garden which laid out at the end of the 19th centu-
ry.

In the vicinity of Roseau lies the Roseau Valley, which offers a
good view of the tropical forests of the island. The two Trafal-
gar Waterfalls lies nearby the small village Trafalgar, which is
very inviting to take a fresh bath. If you go in the direction of
Marigot via the Transinsular Road, it' s really worth making a
trip in the Cariben Reservation. Some inhabitans are still of in-
dian parentage.

Apart from deep rainforests with good hiking trails Dominica
also offers a breathtaking underwater world. The best spot for
scuba diving is the Dominica Underwater National Park,
which lies around the Cabrits Peninsula and Douglas Bay.
