Barbados is the most English Island in the Caribbean and also
known as "Little England". It lies outside the curve of Carib-
bean Islands in the Atlantic and considered to be one of the
most beautiful. Barbados enjoys splendid sand beaches and
has a very good touristic infrastructure with hotels of all cate-
gories. Those tourists who are planning to visit the Caribbean
for the very first time, Barbados would be the ideal place for
them to start with.

The capital Bridgetown is a mixture of colonial architecture
and modern buildings. The harbour Careenage is the center of
the city and worth visit. The Trafalgar Square with the statue of
Lord Nelson and the St. Michaels Cathedral which dates
back to 18th century are the highlights of the city. Also not to
miss are the Parliament Buildings, the old Jewish Syna-
gogue which originally dates back to 17th century and the ol-
dest building in the city, the Harford Chambers.

Most of the hotels and best beaches are situated on the
west
and south coast of Barbados. Speightstown is the second
biggest city and is named after one-time resident of Bristol in
England. The pace of life there is rather slow unlike Bridge-
town and the old buildings are worth seeing as well. On a way
back to Bridgetown is the popular Sugar Museum which lies a
little before Holetown. The museum is located in one of the re-
novated buildings of the time of production and provide good
views into the former times of plantation work. If you travel to
the east coast you will find a totally "different" Barbados. This
area is much more quiet and many locals stay here at week-
ends. You also find surfers at this area, because of the strong
winds. Bathsheba is the best place to stay or at least to pop
into one of the many good restaurants and bars which serve
local food.

Barbados is also ideal for those who enjoy beache vacations
and sports and want to have both opportunities in one. Golf,
tennis and any kind of watersports are available.
